This weekend we’ve been planning to canoe down the Niangua River. We’ve been getting very excited about it, and went to the store last night and bought all sorts of camping supplies. And then leaving tomorrow with our friends, Kevin and Shelley.
Today things didn’t get off to a good start. First thing in the morning, I got a call from Kevin. He told me that Shelly’s boss was forcing her to work this coming Saturday – for 10 hours! Now this is just ridiculous, since I’m sure she’s given him plenty of notice. I guess that’s just the way Cerner works. Anyway, I was really frustrated that we couldn’t go on this trip anymore because of her boss being a jerk.
After fuming for a few minutes about what I think about that company’s employee expectations, I realize that I still haven’t gotten up. I’m still in bed. Did I talk to Kevin on the phone when I was in bed? The phone’s not in the bedroom… Did I dream all this up? So I ask, “Elizabeth, are we still going canoeing?” She replies “Of course.” So I guess the phone call didn’t happen after all, and there is no reason for me to be mad at Shelley’s boss. And the trip is still on.
